How Long Does a Rub-A-Dent™ Last?
With daily use and proper care, rinsing with water after use, a Rub-A-Dent™ can last up to 3 months. And, with a 2 pack, you can alternate daily.
Do you recommend the use of an oil or toothpaste with Rub-A-Dent™?
It is best just to moisten the Rub-A-Dent™ with water when cleaning an infant’s gums.
My friend says I can use a cotton swab for the same purpose. Do you recommend that?
A cotton swab is not appropriate in the mouth. The cotton tip can come apart and it is not designed to clean the gums. There is potential harm to the baby by jabbing the gums with the firm tip of a cotton swab.
When do baby’s first teeth come out?
The American Dental Association states that primary (baby) teeth typically appear when a baby is between the age of 6 months to a year. That is a range and the eruption of the first baby tooth can happen early, as soon as 3 months, often more like 6 months. However, some babies won’t cut a tooth until 9-10 or even close to 12 months.
And should I switch to a toothbrush at that time?
The Lift the Lip pamphlet that came with your set of Rub-A-Dents recommends that you clean the teeth with a soft toothbrush and a smear of fluoridate tooth paste when baby is about one year old.
My baby has a cold. Is it safe to use the same Rub-A-Dent™ or can I wash it in soda or something?
Yes, it is safe to gently use the Rub-A-Dent™ when baby has a cold. Baby may be fussy and intolerant, so it may have to be brief. Remember, with the Rub-A-Dent™, you are cleaning the gums and removing harmful bacteria, so always rinse the Rub-A-Dent™ with warm water and let it air dry after use.
I have twins and it is awkward to change to separate Rub-A-Dents™ for them. Is it safe to use the same one for both babies?
It is best to have a separate Rub-A-Dent™ for each baby so that harmful bacteria cannot be transmitted, just as you would not want to share a toothbrush. And, Mom and Dad can transfer decay causing bacteria to baby just by tasting, sharing a spoon, even kissing baby on the lips.
